New Blommers coffee bar at Huygens building

Coffee lovers rejoice: from now on, you can also enjoy the quality coffee of Nijmegen-based Blommers in the Huygens building. On the corner where QuBar used to be, you will now find Blommers' new pilot location. On weekdays, this is the place to be for a specialty coffee by the barista, prepared with Kees van der Westen's latest deliver espresso machine. Definitely worth a try for the connoisseurs among us!

The collaboration with Blommers is an extension of the existing pilot at Radboud University, in the form of a coffee bar at the Elinor Östrom ground floor and a smaller shop in the Grotius building. The latter has now given way to Blommers Huygens, open Monday to Thursday from 9.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and on Fridays until 2.00 p.m.

Attention to every shot

Blommers Huygens is working with the newest of the new in the world of coffee: a state of the art deliver espresso machine with lever principle, handmade in the Dutch town of Waalre by Kees van der Westen. “Making coffee with this machine, you pull on a spring by muscle power”, Dennis Verhoef (Blommers) explains. “So instead of pressing a button, you pump the water through the coffee bed by hand. Therefore, you have much more influence on the extraction pre-infusion. The machine does not provide one particular amount of water, but the exant amount you want it to give. As a result every shot of espresso automatically gets all the attention it deserves.”

For each type of coffee, Blommers uses a specific recipe. “That is how the flavours come out best”, Dennis tells. “Apart from our regular coffees, we also have special beans on the grinder: you can choose between different varieties.” All Blommers coffee is roasted at the Vasim area in Nijmegen.

QuBar coffee available at Giga-Bite

Blommers' new branch is located in the hall of the Huygens building, on the spot where QuBar used to be. More in the mood for your old familiar cup of QuBar coffee? Fear not: that is still available, a few meters away at Giga-Bite where QuBar's machines have moved to. Note that the coffee machine does not provide disposable cups (and thus produces less waste!). So don't forget to bring your own mug. It is also be possible to purchase a reusable Billie Cup at the campus. Please ask one of the staff members for more information.
