New LibKey functionality shows availability of scientific publications as PDFs

All employees and students of Radboud University will receive a new browser feature: LibKey Nomad. This tool will be automatically installed on all Radboud-managed workstations and helps users quickly find and open scientific publications in PDF format. For employees, LibKey Nomad will be available from 16 February; students will be able to use it from 5 March.

How does it work?

LibKey Nomad is browser software that immediately shows whether a PDF of a scientific publication is available on publishers’ pages and other websites. This includes publications from scientific journals to which the University Library has a subscription, as well as open access articles. The software links exclusively to PDFs from licensed ,and reliable sources.

When a PDF of a scientific publication is available, an icon appears in the bottom left corner of the page. With a single click, the document can be opened. It does not matter which website you are on: there is no longer any need to search for a download button, as LibKey Nomad always displays it in the same place.

How to use LibKey?

LibKey will be available in all browsers (Chrome, Firefox and Edge). To use LibKey, you need to activate it via your browser settings. Read the instructions to find out how to do this. When using LibKey for the first time, you will be asked once to select your institution. Choose Radboud University Nijmegen. From then on, LibKey will always link to PDFs via our licensed sources.
