New TikDoc shows that practice-trained professionals are crucial to innovation

How do we ensure that innovations actually take root in practice? And who is actually at the table when we shape change? Wouter van Zwol, researcher in the field of leadership behavior and organisational psychology, demonstrates in a TikDoc (a short film in TikTok style) where the crux lies and where improvement is possible.

Van Zwol, together with Amber Kornet (Saxion), received an NSvP PhD valorisation grant for their research. In this way, the NSvP aims to offer PhD researchers the opportunity to further translate their new knowledge into practice, for an (even) broader societal impact. The TikDoc ‘Voorbij de blinde vlek’ focuses on the value of practically trained professionals in Learning Communities. These Learning Communities – collaborations in which people from different backgrounds learn and work together – are crucial for organisations. The short film demonstrates that skilled professionals, such as mechanics and drivers, are indispensable for innovation, collaboration and knowledge sharing within organisations, yet they are often overlooked.

Van Zwol: “Real change doesn’t start in a policy document, but among people who think and learn together about their profession. That is the power of a learning community, and that is what this short film shows.”
