Over the past year, NOLAI has experienced major developments. New collaborations with schools, researchers, and companies were launched, and a lot of wonderful concepts came to life in (no less than) ten co-creation projects. During the Wrap Up event on the 27th of June, participants and interested parties took a moment to reflect on what has been achieved so far, and the attendees received the brand-new physical edition of our first magazine.
NOLAI Reference Framework: A common language AI in Education
NOLAI brings together research, education, and corporate life to create AI solutions in education. These applications with smart technology support teachers in primary, secondary, and special education in their teaching. Discussing such applications requires a common language. The renewed and revised reference framework provides tools to understand each other properly within this multidisciplinary collaboration.
Talking about AI
The common language in the reference framework consists of three models that describe how smart technology works, how it acts, and who is in control. This allows us to talk to one another about AI in education without difficulties. Besides textual explanations of AI-specific terms, the magazine also includes rich illustrations that provide a clear overview of current smart technologies and the ongoing projects at NOLAI.
Ambition, knowledge, and skill
In the reference framework you can read all about NOLAI’s working methods. One of the chapters explains how we work together in the triangle of education, science, and corporate life. A description of ten previously-started co-creation projects gives a good indication of what we want to achieve when it comes to supporting teachers and the students’ learning with the help of AI. Here, the focus is always on the help request from the field of education.
Furthermore, you can find out which research regarding AI in education is performed by NOLAI’s own researchers. We do not only try to create practice-oriented smart applications, but also responsible ones with this ‘state of the art’ knowledge on the focus areas of Pedagogy & didactics, Training & professionalisation, AI technology, Ethics, and Sustainable date.
Lastly, the magazine provides an overview of ten companies that offer smart technology in education. They show what we already can do with AI solutions that match various educational goals.
Festive launch
Participants of the Wrap Up event reflected on NOLAI’s developments and growth over the past two years. After an inspiring keynote by director Inge Molenaar, it was time to enter into dialogue with each other in three interactive sessions. “It was valuable to meet people and share insights today. Here you get to see the faces behind the stories. The reference framework is very readable and it is nice to be able to read about a complex topic in a light-hearted way,” says participant Raymond Trippe, policy advisor for Lucas Onderwijs.
Richard Hulsebos is the innovation coordinator special education at Stichting VierTaal and actively participated in the afternoon programme: “It is great to see the other projects in this network. I already heard about two ideas today that we can also use. I will definitely follow those two projects, and I can nicely read all the information about them in the reference framework.”
Do you want to know more about the reference framework? The magazine is fully available to read and download online.
