Nominees FNWI student award 2025

Machiel Weistra

We are pleased to announce the nomination of Machiel Weistra, student of Neurobiology, for the Student Award. Alongside his studies, he has been highly active in both education and student representation within our faculty.

He has served as a student assessor at the Institute of Biosciences, worked as a teaching assistant in several laboratory courses, and represented the bachelor Humane Neurowetenschappen during open days. In addition, he has held board positions at BeeVee and the BetaBedrijvenBeurs, and remained actively involved in addressing key challenges faced by the BBB. Even after his year as a chair finished, he contributed a lot to the organization with his determination and resilience.

Noël Réne Schneider

We are happy to share the nomination of Noël René Schneider, Molecular Chemistry student, for the Faculty of Science Student Award. Who has consistently combined his acadaemics with engagement in faculty life.

During his studies, he has been an active member of the Faculty Student Council and the Programme Committee, contributed to the Gender & Diversity Committee, and supported initiatives such as the Well-being Weeks. He has also been involved as a teaching assistant and in various workgroups. His drive to improve the academic environment has contributed a lot to the Faculty of Science. 

Fernanda Ormel Aracena

We are happy to announce the nomination of Fernanda Ormel Aracena, student of Biomedical Sciences, for the Student Award. Throughout her studies, she has shown strong commitment to student representation, education, and faculty life.

She has been active in multiple board years both at BeeVee and the BetaBedrijvenBeurs, contributed to co-determination through the Education and Programme Committee of Biosciences, and participated in several committees within her study association. In addition, she has also done work as a teaching assistant, where she actively contributed to course evaluations and improvements to the programme.

Mark de Jong

We are happy to announce the nomination of Mark de Jong, student of Data Science, for the student award.  He has been deeply involved in faculty life through a wide range of extracurricular and co-determination roles.

He has served as a board member of study association Thalia, acted as student assessor of the faculty, participated in co-determination activities at both faculty and university level (being part of the university council), and supported education as a teaching assistant. During his year as assessor, he was known for his determination and proactive approach in addressing challenges.
