NWO Mosaic 3.0: opportunity to pursue a fully funded PhD

The NWO Mosaic 3.0 programme offers talented graduates from groups currently underrepresented in Dutch academia the opportunity to pursue a fully funded PhD. The deadline for submitting a pre-proposal is 3 November 2026. Are you interested in pursuing a PhD at Radboud University's Faculty of Law, or do you know someone who might be eligible for this programme? Read on to find out more.

Who is eligible for Mosaic 3.0?

The programme targets two groups:

  • Researchers with a non-European migration background, as further defined in the NWO call.
  • Researchers with a recent asylum or refugee background, including Ukrainian researchers covered by the Temporary Protection Directive.

Mosaic 3.0 is open to research proposals across all academic disciplines and does not prescribe a particular research topic. Your proposed PhD research therefore does not have to concern migration, diversity or discrimination. Please consult the official NWO call to check whether you meet the specific eligibility requirements.

Interested in pursuing a PhD at the Faculty of Law?

To apply, you need a prospective supervisor at the Faculty who is willing to supervise your proposed PhD research. You will develop your research proposal together with this supervisor.

Do you have an idea for a PhD project related to equality, discrimination, emancipation, inclusion or related issues, but have not yet found a supervisor? Please contact Dr Anna Pivaty (anna.pivaty [at] ru.nl (anna[dot]pivaty[at]ru[dot]nl)) from the Faculty's Equality and Emancipation programme (Gelijkheid en Emancipatie).

You do not need to have a fully developed research proposal before getting in touch. An initial research idea or area of interest is enough. We are happy to discuss your ideas and, where possible, help you identify a suitable prospective supervisor within the Faculty. Once a faculty member has agreed to supervise your project, support from the Faculty may also be available for developing and drafting your research proposal.

If your research idea falls outside these themes, we encourage you to approach a researcher at the Faculty whose expertise matches your research interests.

A call to faculty members

Do you know a current student or alumnus who may be eligible for Mosaic 3.0 and interested in pursuing a PhD? Please bring this opportunity to their attention.

If a candidate has a promising research idea that falls within your area of expertise, we also encourage you to consider whether you would be willing to act as their prospective supervisor and support them in developing an application.

Deadline: 3 November 2026

The deadline for submitting a pre-proposal is 3 November 2026. Finding a suitable supervisor and developing a strong application takes time. We therefore encourage interested candidates to get in touch as soon as possible, rather than waiting until their research idea is fully developed.

Please consult the official NWO Mosaic 3.0 call for the complete eligibility criteria, application requirements and deadlines.
