Olympic success for Radboud alumni: gold and silver in Paris

Radboud University has reason to be proud, thanks to the achievements of its alumni at the Paris Olympics. Both Cathelijn Peeters and Koen Metsemakers took home medals.

Gold and silver for Radboud alumni

Koen Metsemakers, a master's alumnus in Dentistry, shone in rowing. The Phocaan captured gold in the double-four, repeating his success from the previous Games in Tokyo (where he also won gold). Cathelijn Peeters, alumnus of the Molecular Life Sciences bachelor, also performed exceptionally. Together with Femke Bol, among others, she took gold in the 4x400-metre mixed relay and added silver in the 4x400-metre relay.

Radboud University represented at Summer Games

A total of five Radboud University students and alumni took part in the Summer Games in Paris. Besides Cathelijn and Koen, these were:

  • Mike Foppen, alumnus of the Psychology master's programme, who came 13th in the final of the 5000 metres. Voxweb spoke to him about his Olympic goal.
  • Nsikak Ekpo, Communication Studies bachelor’s student, who competed in the 4x100 metres relay.
  • Emma Oosterwegel, contract student at the Faculty of Management Sciences, who came 7th in the final of the heptathlon.

Radboud University congratulates them all on these wonderful achievements.

Paralympic prospects

On 28 August, the Paralympic Games will start in Paris, where Radboud University will again be represented. Bo Kramer, master's student in Biomedical Sciences, and Julia van der Sprong, alumna of the bachelor in Business Administration, are part of the Dutch wheelchair basketball team. We wish them the best of luck!
