Development opportunity for EdTech companies
Which EdTech company will seize this opportunity and collaborate with primary school De Venen, Stichting Klasse, and Radboud University to develop a prototype of a technical reading application that uses Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) to provide feedback at word level? Pupils read aloud and receive immediate feedback on word accuracy, while the application adaptively adjusts the practice content based on their reading level, and reading speed. At the same time, teachers gain continuous insight into pupils’ progress and specific reading difficulties, enabling them to offer more targeted support. Together, you will form a project team with primary school De Venen, Stichting Klasse, and Radboud University.
EdTech partner wanted
Each year, NOLAI develops new co-creation projects to design prototypes of responsible educational AI within a three-year period. Each project begins with a question from a school. From there, partners from academia and industry are invited to collaborate with the school through the concept, development, and validation phases. The project in question has already completed the concept phase and will enter the development and validation phases over the next two years.
Current challenge at school
Despite investments, reading proficiency and reading motivation continue to lag behind, and teachers currently have limited and infrequent insight into students’ reading development. Existing assessments mainly provide general information, making it difficult to respond to individual needs in a timely and targeted way. Primary school De Venen, Stichting Klasse, and Radboud University are seeking a technology partner to develop an application that strengthens technical reading skills in Grade 4 pupils using speech technology.
The practical question
How can AI technology based on speech technology contribute to stimulating technical reading skills in Grade 4, while at the same time providing more nuanced insights into students’ reading development?
Is your company a match?
We’d love to receive more information via the form below. A selection of companies will be invited for follow-up conversations in week 15. A strong match with the school and involved researchers is key. Each selection process is tailored, but we do look for several basic criteria:
- Experience collaborating with primary or secondary education
- Experience collaborating with academic researchers
- Relevant subject-matter expertise
- Motivation to participate in the project
Please describe these criteria as clearly as possible in the form.
What to expect
You can respond until April 8 at the latest. In week 15, you will receive a message informing you whether your company has been selected for a follow‑up interview. The first interviews will take place online on Monday, April 13, from 09:30 to 12:00. Will we be meeting? If so, together with a co‑creation manager and an education professional from Stichting Klasse, you will explore a potential partnership within a co‑creation project.
