The Department is saddened to announce the passing of Kurt Tudyka on 19 March.
Born in 1935, Tudyka was a German political scientist and peace researcher whose academic career combined intellectual breadth with a strong engagement in international politics. Before joining Radboud, he studied political science, economics, and theatre studies in Germany and the United States, and held an academic position at the University of Nuremberg-Erlangen.
At Radboud University, he served as Professor of International Relations from 1972 to 1992, playing a significant role during formative and sometimes turbulent years of the department. He contributed institutionally as chair of the Institute of Political Science and head of the 'Centre for Polemology'.
An unconventional and deeply engaged scholar, Tudyka made important contributions to conflict and peace studies, particularly on international organizations, global political economy, and the prospects for a more peaceful world order. Beyond academia, he remained active in cultural life and the arts.
He is fondly remembered by colleagues and former students.
