Pieter Wolters appointed professor of civil law, in particular cybersecurity law

Pieter Wolters has been appointed professor of Civil Law, in particular cybersecurity law at the Faculty of Law of Radboud University, starting 1 February 2025.

Wolters will conduct research at the intersection of cybersecurity law and private law. In doing so, he focuses on topics as diverse as cybersecurity, authentication and the reliability of digital data, private law enforcement of data protection law, data law and content moderation. Here, Wolters' research is distinguished by a consistent focus on the significance of these topics in a private law context. The collaboration within the Radboud Business Law Institute (OO&R) enables him to study these topics in diverse areas of law. Moreover, through the collaboration in the iHub, Wolters combines his expertise in positive law with interdisciplinary insights.

In the coming years, Wolters will further research the European legal cybersecurity framework. 'The European legal cybersecurity framework has greatly expanded in recent years. It consists of a large number of overlapping, diverse and interlocking instruments,' Wolters explains. ‘I want to clarify this framework and examine to what extent and how it contributes to the cybersecurity of our society.’
