What does this mean?
Because there will be no electricity, important systems such as (emergency) lighting, ventilation and extraction will not work. Therefore, these buildings will be closed on 11 June for safety reasons. To prevent damage to equipment and loss of work, users of these buildings need to take precautionary measures.
Linnaeus building
No preparatory actions are needed in this building.
UBC
Users are asked to safely shut down all devices and processes before 11 June. Think of lighting, computers and other equipment.
Mercator III
Limited emergency power is available via sockets marked with an 'N'. Emergency power is only intended for very critical and necessary equipment such as important refrigerators or freezers. Additionally: the fewer devices connected to emergency power, the better it works for truly necessary equipment. Too much consumption may overload the system, causing everything to fail. So only use these sockets for what is really necessary.
Please note: devices on emergency power will experience a brief power interruption during the switchover. Some (older) devices may not handle this well and the use of emergency power is at your own risk. F&S will not replace or repair equipment that becomes defective as a result.
Precautionary measures to prevent damage to equipment
To prevent damage to equipment, interruption of research or loss of data, we ask everyone to take the following preparations:
- Completely switch off computers, monitors, printers and other equipment (not just in sleep mode).
- Disconnect sensitive devices from the socket (unless they are connected to emergency power).
- Save all your work in time and close programs and files.
- Safely switch off research setups and measuring equipment, unless they are connected to emergency power AND this is necessary.
- Check if your equipment is really connected to emergency power. If so, be aware that there will be a brief interruption when switching over.
- Limit the use of emergency power to what is absolutely necessary.
- Work elsewhere on campus or at home on Wednesday 11 June.
