Project start: Recognizing Extracted Entities for the Historical Database Suriname Curacao (REE-HDSC)

On 3 April, our new project REE-HDSC sets off, which is granted by the Netherlands eScience Center’s Call for Small-Scale Initiatives in Digital Approaches to the Humanities (SSI 2022a). The project aims to speed up the transcription process of death, birth and marriage certificates from 19th century Curacao by developing a method to extract information from text generated with the help of handwritten text recognition (HTR).

The project will take nine months up until December 2023. For more information, have a look at the project website or contact lead applicant Matthias Rosenbaum-Feldbrügge or research software engineer Erik Tjong Kim Sang.
