Radboud University and Werkbedrijf Rijk van Nijmegen sign social impact agreement

Radboud University Nijmegen and WerkBedrijf Rijk van Nijmegen have jointly signed an SROI covenant. This makes Radboud University the second university in the Netherlands to take this step in the field of Social Return On Investment (SROI). In doing so, it underlines the importance of doing business with social impact. WerkBedrijf's SROI desk supports organizations with advice on tenders and the mediation of personnel, among other things. Daniël Wigboldus, chairman of the Board of Governors of Radboud University, and Ina Hol, director of WerkBedrijf, signed the covenant.

Daniel Wigboldus: "I sometimes compare our university to a big ship. We think about our course and plot it. Adjusting the course is something we start on in a well-considered way. First we determine where we want to go. By signing this covenant we are sending out a message: from the bridge of our ship we are also including socially responsible contracting and procurement in our course. A beautiful and important addition that enriches our policy". Ina Hol: "As WerkBedrijf we like to work together with organizations that make a real social impact. Getting more people with a distance to the labor market to participate is our primary mission. We can only do this in good partnership. We are therefore pleased with the value that Radboud University gives to social corporate social responsibility. The signing of the covenant is an important step in this".

SROI for clients and contractors

For some time now, the government has had a policy of including inclusive conditions in contracts with contractors, known as Social Return. Here the party, which is awarded a contract, is asked to 'give something back' to society in return. WerkBedrijf already facilitated this for all municipalities in the labor market region Rijk van Nijmegen and is now also doing this for housing corporations. WerkBedrijf's SROI desk advises clients on including social conditions during the tendering process, facilitates contractors in fulfilling the agreements made and monitors the entire process. Now WerkBedrijf is also going to shape this in cooperation with Radboud University.
