At Radboud University, we believe it’s important that everyone feels welcome and safe – especially in places you visit daily, like toilets. That’s why we are working on creating inclusive toilets. These toilets are intended for everyone, regardless of gender identity or other personal characteristics.
To achieve this, we are assessing which modifications are needed for each building. This may range from updating signage to adding extra facilities, such as a privacy screen at urinals or a hygiene bin (small waste bin) in the toilet cubicles. Examples of adapted signage include clear pictograms indicating the type of toilet available, without specifying who should use it. In this way, we ensure that everyone feels free to use the facilities that best suit them.
Each building will have at least one inclusive toilet per three floors, ensuring that there is always one nearby.
Schedule
The plan is to carry out the modifications this summer, so that all toilets are adapted by the start of the new academic year. The hygiene cubicles are an exception; these will be added at a later date to the locations where they are currently missing. Work on the first modifications is already underway, but much of the work, such as installing the privacy screens, will take place in weeks 33 and 34 (between 10 and 23 August).
These modifications take approximately half a day per toilet or toilet block. Afterwards, the toilets will be available for use again
