Radboud wins VAR moot court competition 2025

A team of four law students from the Faculty of Law has won the VAR moot court competition 2025. After four months of intensive preparation, Kiara Blondel, Niels Burghoorn, Thijs Steinmann and Lars van Lenthe managed to convince the jury, consisting of lawyers and judges from the highest administrative law courts, with their presentation and strong substantive argumentation.

This year's annual moot court competition, organised by the Administrative Law Association (VAR), took place on 14 May at Erasmus University Rotterdam. The competition consisted of three substantive cases, including a fine for prohibited resale price maintenance, an amendment to the Electricity Tariff Code for solar panel users, and, in the final, an order under penalty for erroneous healthcare declarations by an occupational health and safety institution.

The Radboud University team captured first place, followed by the teams from Utrecht and Tilburg, who came second and third. The students were guided by lecturers Saskia Hillegers and Hans Peters during their preparation.

The festive honouring of the winning team took place on 23 May during the VAR annual meeting in Utrecht, in the presence of more than 500 administrative lawyers.
