Between 8 and 14 May, we organised several activities to celebrate Radboud University's 100th anniversary this year. Time for a recap!
Recap of celebrating Radboud 100 years
Aftermovie celebrating 100 years of Radboud University
100 Radboud Gestures
Throughout the week, no fewer than 100 activities took place for the people of Nijmegen. Under the name '100 Radboud Gestures', our students and staff organised various acts of kindness. From lectures and scientific experiments, to gatherings and clean-up actions throughout the city. See the photo album, the video by Voxweb about the BOM activity with seniors, and the aftermovie.
On 9 May, hundreds of primary school children came to Veur-Lent to do research. From every faculty and the Donders Institute, researchers together with the children did experiments, played role-playing games, or dived into nature, for example. View the photo album, read the article by the AD and Voxweb, and watch the aftermovie.
Honorary Doctorate for Michael Sandel
During this anniversary year, seven honorary doctorates will be awarded, one for each faculty. On 9 May, Michael Sandel was awarded his honorary doctorate, on behalf of the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies. Watch the recap and video of Sandel's lecture. The awarding of the other six honorary doctorates will follow in October.
On 11 May, over 6,000 students, (former) staff, alumni and neighbours flocked to campus for Radboud Festival. The programme included live music, lectures, workshops and much more 'gezelligheid'. Check out the photo albums, read Voxweb's liveblog, listen to the podcast episode that Maarten van Rossem recorded that day (in Dutch), and watch the aftermovie.
The week ended festively on 12 May with Radboud Sounds, the science of music. Scientists and artists stood together on the stages of a sold-out Doornroosje. Read, watch, and listen to the recap by Radboud Reflects, view the photo album and photo report by Into Nijmegen and watch the aftermovie.
On to October!
This special anniversary year is not over yet, because in October we will celebrate further. 17 October 2023 is the official 100th anniversary of Radboud University: the Dies Natalis. There, we will award six honorary doctorates and the change of rector will take place. We will also organise Radboud Art & Science, a festival at the intersection of art and science, and there will be events at the faculties with the new honorary doctorates. More information on these activities will follow after the summer.
