Research, education and impact? The Social Sciences 7 Hills Team!

On Sunday 16 November, it was again time for no fewer than 30,000 participants to tackle the hills around Nijmegen during a 15-kilometre run. A total of 291 company teams participated. For the third year in a row, a diverse team of FSS staff members participated, and with success, because this year our team was the best (and only) team from Radboud University.

Moreover, the progress we have made in recent years bodes well for 2026. Whereas we finished 76th in 2023 and 57th in 2024, this year we finished in 28th place. Perhaps we will make the top 10 in 2026?

In these times of austerity, sponsoring a company team has proven a challenge. We found a solution in the long-standing collaboration between the ‘Active Living’ team and the Zevenheuvelenloop (Seven Hills Run) Foundation. We do not only conduct research together, but there is also intensive collaboration within education through Bachelor’s and Master’s theses. The subsequent results are then used by the Zevenheuvelenloop Foundation and therefore have a direct impact.

Next year, we will try to continue the progress we have made and perhaps finish in the top 10. But fun is the most important thing! If you would like to go for a run every now and then, as some of our colleagues already do every two weeks, please contact Hidde Bekhuis.
