The Executive Board of Radboud University has taken note of the Open Letter from staff and students published on Scienceguide. The letter is strong in tone and content and also contains observations with which the Executive Board does not agree. Within our university, we allow room for a multitude of opinions, within the framework of freedom of expression and academic freedom. At the same time, we call on the university community to continue to embrace the academic values of openness, mutual respect and critical dialogue in debate. Together, we must find a way in which critical dialogue is possible and in which we also respect each other's rights and privacy, especially when we disagree with others. Only then can everyone feel safe and secure on campus.
The Executive Board is keen to meet with a delegation of the authors of the open letter to discuss concerns about social safety at the university in relation to the situation in Gaza. Support is available for students and staff who experience social insecurity.
