On Friday 31 January, the Catholic Documentation Centre (KDC) will organise the seminar: 'Taking care of the farmers'.

On 31 January 2025, the KDC will host the seminar: 'Taking care of the farmers', concerning the deminishing livelihoods of farmers due to modernisation, regulation and the nitrogen crisis and the issues this caused. Experts discuss how social, mental and physical problems were tackled and the role that (Catholic) philosophy of life played in this.

Central topics of discussion are:

  • The role of the Social Fund of the North Brabant Christian Farmers' Union (NCB) and its successor the Southern Agriculture and Horticulture Organisation (ZLTO).
  • The agricultural policy of Pierre Lardinois (1924-1987), former Dutch agriculture minister, European commissioner and head of the NCB.
  • The new publication of historian and anthropologist Anne-Goaitske Breteler on the issue of mental health in rural Friesland (Nothern Netherlands).
