Signing moment founding Laudato Si' Institute

The Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies and the Socires Foundation are partnering to establish and maintain the Laudato Si' Institute. On June 8, representatives of the two organizations signed for the establishment of the Institute.

The Institute will conduct research on integral ecology from a dialogical and trans-disciplinary perspective. The institute will house an associate professor, a part-time academic staff member and a number of doctoral students.

The partnership has a long history. In 2018, Bishop Gerard de Korte advised the Radboud University to orient itself to Pope Francis' Encyclical Laudati Si' about "inhabiting the one house together." At the departure of Prof. Frans Wijsen as dean of Theology, the bishop reiterated his advice. The Executive Board took this advice to the dialogues on the Catholic identity of the university and found an ally in the Socires Foundation for the establishment of the institute.

The institute will open December 1, 2023, accompanied by a scholarly symposium entitled "From Anthropocene to Symbiocene in Education and Research.
