Start of the New working environment FoA project

Just in time for the start of summer, the ‘New working environment FoA’ project has now taken off. The project group came together to discuss the aims of the project and to set up plans. The project is a considerable contribution to the faculty’s ability to meet the expected savings quotum that we are facing. At the same time, the project offers a chance to better connect the working environment to how we work (together). The project is building towards a new working environment within the Erasmus building, which can lend support to education, research and operations, and is attuned to how we as users work together. ‘New working environment FoA’ is set to be completed before late 2025.

By using our working environment in a more efficient way, we reduce housing costs and, as a result, part of the faculty-wide budget deficits. Concretely, by doing away with four floors of office space, we save approximately 800.000 euros per year.

Project group

The coming months, the project group will set up plans for the new working environment. The project group represents the faculty’s scientific staff members, professional services, the FGV and the FSC.

Roadmap: steps towards the relocation

The separation from the four floors is set to happen by late 2025. This deadline gives us the opportunity to relocate during the Christmas holiday, in order to minimize the disruption of the primary process. The roadmap below shows the steps leading up to the relocation.

Building possibilities

During the earlier track ‘Sustainable work(place) concept’, as part of the FoA-FPTR Housing project, colleagues from the faculty have already been asked how they work (together) and what their wishes and needs are pertaining to this. This means that the current project, ‘New working environment FoA’, can start in phase 2: opportunities in the building. This means that the project group is currently collecting as much information as possible the already collected information. The input will be recalibrated where needed and is meant to lead to a new layout for workplaces in the Erasmus building. This only concerns input in relation to the Faculty of Arts; input from FPTR will not be included. Their wishes are considered in a separate project. Concrete examples will be given in later communications.

After the New working environment FoA project is completed, a renovation of the Erasmus building may still be necessary. In this case, we will still base our operations around the existing starting points regarding the working environment. Despite a possible renovation in the future, sacrificing floors is already necessary to realise the financial savings.

Working productively, effectively and pleasantly

Radboud Sustainable Working (RDW) is the university-wide programme under which this project falls. RDW focuses on smarter ways to engage with working environment a, so that everyone can work in a pleasant and productive way. In recent years, the way we work has changed. Not necessarily in terms of what we do, but mostly how and where. Many spaces and rooms are not yet in line with this: perhaps you feel that you are missing spaces in which you can concentrate or where you can take a Teams call, or rooms where you can have an informal chat. Or you may notice empty rooms that are inaccessible to you. RDW offers the opportunity to improve this, and to simultaneously contribute to the university’s need for savings, by using spaces more efficiently. The programe strives toward a working environment that better suits the way we work together, teach, research and focus. You can visit the website to read more about the Radboud Sustainable Working programme and what it can mean for you.
