Stephan van Galen appointed new Vice President of the Radboud University Executive Board

Stephan van Galen (55) has been appointed vice president of the Executive Board of Radboud University with effect from 1 September 2026. Following consultation with the deans and the University General Assembly, the Supervisory Board has appointed Van Galen.

The Board values his extensive administrative experience, academic background and proven ability to work successfully in a complex university environment. Thanks to his experience at the University of Groningen, he is familiar with the issues facing our university, and this, taken together, makes him ideally suited for the role of Vice-President.’

In recent years, Van Galen served as Director-General and Secretary of the University of Groningen. Prior to that, he worked successively at Universities of the Netherlands (UNL) and the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO). Stephan van Galen studied History at Leiden University, after which he completed a Master’s degree in South Asian Studies at SOAS University of London. He obtained his PhD in 2008 at Leiden University on the history of Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Stephan van Galen succeeds interim vice-chair Marcel Wintels, who temporarily took on the role of vice-chair following the departure of Agnes Muskens. Together with chair Alexandra van Huffelen and rector magnificus José Sanders, Stephan van Galen will form the Executive Board from 1 September.
