Studieretreat make progress

Do you want to get away from it all and still work on your studies? The student chaplaincy and Franciscan youth work are jointly organizing a study retreat at the minderbroeder franciscanen klooster in Megen.

What can you expect?

During your stay at the monastery, you'll experience the life of the brothers. Their daily rhythm has provided structure to the day for centuries. This provides an excellent foundation to prepare for an exam or to writ that one assignment in peace. If you get stuck, there's always time for a chat to help you get back on track. During your stay at the monastery, you'll have your own room with a sink and a desk. The rooms are located on the first floor. The shared restrooms are located in the hallway. Wi-Fi is available. The monastery is located in the historic town of Megen and features a large garden with a campfire area.

The daily rhythm

  • 7:30 a.m.: Morning Prayer;
  • 8:00-8:45 a.m.: Breakfast (wash your own plate, cup, and cutlery);
  • 10:30 a.m.: Coffee/tea in the living room;
  • 12:15 p.m.: Afternoon Prayer;
  • 12:30 p.m.: Hot meal (followed by communal washing up);
  • 3:30 p.m.: Coffee/tea in the living room;
  • 6:00 p.m.:
    • Evening Prayer and Eucharist on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays;
    • Tuesday Evening Prayer and Eucharist with the Clarissen, departure at 5:30 p.m.;
  • 6:30-7:15 p.m.: Evening sandwich (joint start, wash your own plate, cup, and cutlery);
  • 7:30 p.m.: Closing the day with prayer;
  • 11:00 p.m.: Silence.

Participation in the prayer moments is not obligatory.
