Summary 208th Faculty Joint Assembly (FJA) FNWI

The 208th Faculty Joint Assembly (FJA) held on 24 June and 8 July had a full agenda. At the end of the academic year, there are a number of standing items on the agenda:

  • Approval of the Teaching and Examination Regulations
  • Discussion of the faculty’s four-monthly report
  • Discussion of the faculty policy letter, the prelude to the 2027 budget

In addition, an addendum to the faculty regulations was submitted for approval, and the Housing working group provided an update on its progress.

Education and Examination Regulations (EER)

The FJA has approved the EERs, provided that the Examination Board considers all proposals from students to put together an elective programme. This has been agreed.

Four-monthly report

The faculty’s financial situation looks favourable for 2026, thanks in part to the commitment and sacrifices made by virtually every department within the faculty. There is even sufficient scope to allocate a budget to all institutes and support departments for (one-off) additional expenditure this year.

Policy letter

The FoS policy letter sets out the financial frameworks for 2027 for the faculty’s institutes and departments. The institutes are also asked to provide input for the annual plan. The outlook for 2027 is favourable; the faculty is highly likely to be in the black. However, there are still uncertainties for 2028 and beyond, not least because the in-depth analyses of the professional services have not yet been finalised.

Faculty Regulations

The Faculty Regulations are being amended due to changes in the university’s participatory governance structure. For example, programme committees will become formal participatory bodies with effect from 1 September. The FGV has approved the regulations.

Update on the accommodation plan

The Accommodation Working Group (Martijn Frieling, Lene Hviid, Jennifer Koelman and Sebastian Krosse) has explained the basis on which a proposal (‘layout plan’) is being drawn up for the arrangement of institutes and administrative departments in the Huygens Building. In doing so, the working group is taking into account climate control and ventilation, the number of people in departments (not just FTEs!) and (work)spaces for students and student societies.
