Summer closure 2026 (sub-pilot)

The pilot project 'Opening hours in line with usage' is investigating how the opening hours of campus buildings can be better aligned with actual usage by students and staff. The sub-pilot project 'Summer closure 2026' will conclude the overall pilot project. Based on the insights gained from the pilot, a proposal is currently being developed to better align opening hours with actual usage on a structural basis.

Because the decision-making process will take some time and the evaluation shows that early communication is desirable, preparations for the summer closure of 2026 have already begun.

Campus hub

During quiet periods, a limited number of buildings are open in the centre of the campus. There you will find everything you need: workspaces in the Elinor Ostrom Building, study areas in the University Library, and sports and cultural facilities in the Gymnasion. This concentration of workspaces (including study areas) and facilities creates a campus hub where you can work, study and relax in comfort.

Summer closure 2026

The closure period is from week 29 to week 32. This coincides with the period of reduced teaching and study in the academic year calendar.

Buildings that will close:

  • Berchmanianum
  • Erasmus Building (high and low)
  • Grotius Building
  • Maria Montessori Building
  • Lecture Hall Complex (CZC)
  • The possibilities for summer closure of the Huygens Building and Mercator 1 will be further explored in the coming period.

During this period, workspaces for staff will be available in the Elinor Ostrom Building. Students can use the University Library. Researchers with access to research rooms and labs for which an authorised access pass has been issued will retain access if necessary.

For staff of the closed buildings who require additional facilities, customised solutions will be developed in the coming period.

Catering

During the summer period, as in previous summers, adjusted opening hours apply to the catering establishments on campus. The Yard in the Gymnasion is open throughout the summer and De Refter is also open during the Four Days Marches week. During this period, De Refter serves as a base for the Red Cross.
