To work, meet and congregate well every day, we use a huge number of desks, chairs and other furniture at Radboud University, as well as at home workplaces. So with our furniture, we have a big impact on sustainability. From 1 January 2025, Workbrands will supply furniture for offices, meeting places, home workplaces and lockers. In time, other furniture may be added, such as college and catering furniture.

Supplier for circular furniture
On Tuesday 19 November, Radboud University and the company Workbrands signed a contract to supply circular furniture.
Circular requirements
The furniture supplied by Workbrands meets the Radboud University's high requirements for circularity: at least 90% is reused and/or refurbished. The latter means that the furniture has been cleaned, repaired and possibly revamped. The purchase of new furniture is limited to 10%, but that too is circular. This means that this furniture has been developed with the least possible environmental impact and that the components are dismountable, adaptable, repairable and replaceable to extend its lifespan. In addition, Workbrands will act as an intermediary linking supply and demand for the furniture, thus avoiding the purchase of new furniture as much as possible.
Partnership
Commenting on the contract signing, Vice-President of the Executive Board Agnes Muskens said: 'Sustainability is one of the guiding principles in everything we procure. The decision to go for fully circular furniture fits well with our objectives. We like to work with partners with whom this way of thinking is really lived out. That is why we are looking forward to working with Workbrands.'
Jean Spronken of Workbrands: 'We look forward to a long-term collaboration with Radboud University and hope to help build a circular future. This agreement enables us to realise innovative solutions that not only contribute to sustainability, but also improve the working and learning experience of employees and students.'
Mock-up rooms
With this partnership, Radboud University is taking a big step towards a circular campus and further building an innovative and sustainable working environment. Next year, mock-up spaces will be set up so that staff and students can experience the circular furniture for themselves.
