The Timeline in the Erasmus Building recounts a rich history

Radboud University is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies, and the Faculty of Law are also celebrating their 100th anniversaries this year. Did you know that for a long time, the two faculties in the Erasmus building formed one faculty? To celebrate this anniversary, a multitude of circular boards recounting the rich history of the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies have been hung on the stairwell of the Erasmus building from the basement to the 18th floor.

From the birth of our University to an inspiring future

The timeline consists of circular board combining text and images to recount the rich history of our University and faculties. The first circular board is about the year 1655: 3 May 1655 marked the official opening of the precursor of the first Nijmegen university: the Illustere School, also known as the Kwartierlijke Academie. The number of students that day is almost unimaginable to us: an estimated 50. If you want to know more about the origins of the University, make sure you visit the stairwell in the Erasmus Building.

Exhibition

The showcases in the Erasmus Hall also contain an exhibition on the 100-year history of the faculties. Some of the objects in the showcases refer to specific circular boards in the stairwell.
