Prof. Tom Heskes is a Data Science professor. He conducts research on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science, using probability theory and statistics to develop and better understand new data science methods. His particular interest lies in causality, or how to determine cause and effect from "big data." The developed techniques are used in a variety of projects, especially in healthcare and industry.
Tom Heskes was previously director of the Research Institute for Computing and Information Science and the Educational Institute of Computer Science and Information Science. As a former director and co-founder of spin-off companies, he has extensive experience with practical applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning. He is also closely involved with the Data Science master's specialization and initiator of Radboud AI.
