Two New Project Proposals Approved

Every year, NOLAI identifies the key challenges in education. Together with schools, these challenges are explored and developed into a clear problem definition. Based on this, NOLAI seeks relevant researchers and a company to collaborate with the school in developing and testing a prototype. Last week, two project proposals were approved by the NOLAI steering committee. Two new co-creation teams are now ready to start.

Behind the scenes, the co-creation teams—led by a co-creation manager and a project leader—have already been preparing for these two projects. Now that the proposals have been approved by the steering committee, the teams have the green light. A celebratory moment, preceded by a lot of hard work. These are the two new projects:

Study Choice Process with AI

How can AI help students explore their identity, interests, and values, and support mentors in providing personalized guidance? 

Many high school students experience the study choice process as superficial and obligatory, which can lead to poor decisions and dropout. NSG Groenewoud therefore wants to deepen and personalize the career orientation process in grades 10 and 11. Mentors often feel uncertain due to lack of time and concrete tools, while students need active guidance. This project will develop an AI-supported study choice tool that helps students and supports mentors in personalized guidance throughout the process.

With NSG Groenewoud, HAN University of Applied Sciences, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG), Maastricht University (ROA) and Get Clarity.

Creative Thematic Education with AI

How can AI be used to develop thematic lessons and teaching materials that stimulate creative skills?

Thematic learning makes education more meaningful and encourages students to connect different subjects with their own world. It also offers opportunities to foster creativity. However, teachers face challenges in designing thematic lessons that stimulate creativity. Such design is time-consuming and complex. Teachers need support and practical tools for the design process. This project will develop an AI lesson design tool to assist teachers in creating thematic teaching materials.

Co-Creation in the Triangle

With the project proposals approved, the new co-creation teams can truly begin. Over the next three years, the participating schools will work with scientific and business partners to develop a prototype of an intelligent AI application in three phases: concept, development, and validation. After three years, the co-creation projects will be completed. The most promising prototypes from NOLAI’s co-creation projects will hopefully find their way into the education market.
