UBC is becoming the place to be for circular and biobased construction

The University Business Centre (UBC) had long been slated for demolition. This is now off the table. From spring 2026, VIA-T will move into the building, which means that the UBC will remain on campus and be given a new purpose as an inspiring and circular innovation centre for future-proof construction.

VIA-T is a cooperative association of public and private partners committed to accelerating the transition to circular and biobased construction in the Arnhem-Nijmegen region. VIA-T brings together education, research, clients and companies to innovate in a practical way in the construction sector.

What does this mean for the UBC?

The UBC is transforming into a vibrant working and learning environment where people build, learn, research and collaborate. Students from VO-Campus, Pro-college, ROC, HAN and Radboud University are literally building the future there: in practical spaces, with real materials and on real projects. Start-ups will have opportunities to test their latest innovations in biobased and circular construction. The building itself will also become part of the learning process: from modular workplaces and demountable spaces to circular materials.

VIA-T has concluded a usage agreement with Radboud University and is responsible for the management and maintenance of the UBC. The building will no longer be used as an office from 2026 onwards.

Enhancing social role and impact in the region

The UBC trains new generations of professionals for a circular future. At the same time, clients, construction companies and government bodies meet here to collaborate on specific issues relating to circular construction in the Arnhem-Nijmegen region.

This collaboration with VIA-T is in line with Radboud University's aim to increase its social role and impact in the region through structural partnerships. Education and research are used to tackle and solve social challenges together with these partners. This contributes to a positive stimulation of economic vitality, social cohesion and sustainable innovation in the region.
