What was done last semester?
The first steps have been taken to transform the fallow land next to the Hortus into a community garden. A brainstorm took place on 27 June and a committee was set up after the summer to flesh out the plan.
In the autumn, the soil was excavated, soil testing took place and the excavated area was refilled with good earth. A plan for the vegetable garden has been drawn up and the first flower bulbs have been planted, which we hope to see come up nicely in spring.
And now?
Besides what has already been planted, there is plenty of room for other vegetables. A storage shed and gardening tools have been purchased (partly made possible by the PV Radboud) so we can get to work.
In spring, we want to open the garden to whoever wants to work in it - it's not called a Community Garden for nothing 😊 it's a garden belonging to all of us.
All sorts of things can still happen. Think of sowing and harvesting but also making signs for what is where, weeding, placing benches, indicating routes more clearly, ... etc.
Would you like to help?
From now on, we will keep interested students and staff informed via a Microsoft Teams group. Would you like to help out in the Radboud community garden or know what's going on?
You will also find the map and the sowing calendar there.
