Professional Development Activities for Academic Teachers in 2023-2024

This school year, we are offering updated professional development activities for academically trained teachers in secondary education. Due to popular demand, we have developed subject-specific masterclasses for Dutch, modern foreign languages, geography, chemistry, economics & religious studies. In the second semester, fully qualified teachers can also participate in specialization courses from the regular program. This is a great opportunity for students, newcomers, and experienced teachers to learn together on topics such as diversity, digital literacy, autonomy support, and game design. Reflecting on Induction in Your School

How can we retain novice teachers? It's a continuous quest. While we partly understand what is crucial in guidance, there is less knowledge about how this guidance is actually implemented in practice and experienced by beginners. In collaboration with the VOraad, the Induction of Novice Teachers: Lessons from Practice booklet has been developed, presenting induction practices in various schools. Harmen Schaap, a researcher at Radboud Teachers Academy, contributed to this publication. The booklet doesn't focus on "best practices" but aims to provide insights into the complexity of induction support in today's educational landscape. This booklet can serve as a basis for reflecting on your own guidance practices at school.

Schools/Teachers Wanted for Curriculum Revision in Modern Foreign Languages

On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science, the learning objectives for modern foreign languages (MFL) are currently being revised (www.actualisatiemvt.nl). It is certain that (final) exams will undergo changes. Therefore, teaching and teaching methods will also need to change in the short term. Our teacher educators Sophie Brand and Stefanie Ramachers (subject didactic experts in French and German, respectively) aim to develop education in close collaboration with French and German teachers from the region to meet the new exam goals. They are currently applying for a subsidy from the National Agency for Education Research (NRO). They are looking for a few schools with one German and one French teacher willing to participate in this research and take on a key role in implementing the new curriculum at their own school. For more information, please email stefanie.ramachers [at] ru.nl (stefanie[dot]ramachers[at]ru[dot]nl) or sophie.brand [at] ru.nl (sophie[dot]brand[at]ru[dot]nl).

Mapping the Complexity of the Region

One of the goals of the Regional Alliance Southeast Netherlands (RA-ZON) was to create an overview of everything we have built together in the broad region over the past years, including the variety of educational routes and different collaboration networks (such as RAP, SO&P, and regional alliances). Both goals have been achieved. An interactive map has been developed to showcase the significant regional collaborations in the Southeast Netherlands region. Additionally, the teacher training programs of HAN University of Applied Sciences, ArtEZ University of the Arts, and Radboud University have been consolidated and visualized.
