Wanted: students and lecturers for Behind the Scenes of Teaching project

As a student, would you like to experience teaching from the other side and provide constructive feedback to lecturers? Or, as a lecturer, are you curious about the real experience of students in your classes and open to reflection? Then join the third edition of the 'Behind the Scenes of Teaching' project of the Radboud Teaching and Learning Centre and the Radboud Honours Academy / CoLaboratory!

The 'Behind the Scenes of Teaching' project gives students a glimpse behind the scenes of teaching. Students gain experience with coaching and giving feedback and they learn to discuss this with lecturers. For lecturer, it is very useful to include the student perspective in the development and implementation of their teaching.

For students

This project offers you the unique opportunity to get an insight into the teaching profession and actively participate in teaching development. You will be paired with a lecturer from another faculty, and follow them during block 2 (3 November – 23 January 2026). You will participate in at least three contact moments, during which you will discuss the preparation and implementation of lectures, attend working groups, or provide feedback on teaching methods or testing. What exactly you will observe also depends on the lecturers' question. In addition to valuable coaching and self-reflection experience, you will work on a final product that you will present on 9 February 2026.

Are you an enthusiastic student and want to join?

Nice! Then send an e-mail to Lon Kalb (lon.kalb [at] ru.nl), projectmanager Radboud Teaching and Learning Centre, no later than 20th of September 2025, and indicate what you would like to learn from following a lecturer. Once you have registered, we will invite you for an interview. Also for questions about the programme, please contact Lon. The project requires a time investment of approximately 15 hours.

For lecturers

Are you open to valuable input from the student perspective and would you like to do more with self-reflection? In this project, you follow a reflective process in which students observe your teaching and provide feedback. You will also get the chance to attend a lecture of your paired student. This way, you step into the role of the student and experience for yourself what it is like to be on the other side of the lecture hall. A unique opportunity to gain new insights and further strengthen your teaching. We aim to pair two students per lecturer. We start with a Meet&Greet on 9 October 2025 (12:15-13:15). Then there will be three pre- and post-lecture discussions of a lecture in block 2 and conclude with a final meeting on 9 February 2026 (15:00-17:00).

The most important thing is that as a lecturer you are open to self-reflection. You may want to look at specific parts of your course (e.g. your own presentation skills or the use of certain examples in your lectures). In addition, you give students an opportunity to experience teaching up close and perhaps even make them enthusiastic about it.

Are you enthusiastic and do you want to participate?

Nice! Then send an e-mail to Lon Kalb (lon.kalb [at] ru.nl (lon[dot]kalb[at]ru[dot]nl)), project manager Radboud Teaching and Learning Center, no later than 20th of September 2-2025. Also indicate where your observation needs lie. This helps us match you with the right student. You can also contact Lon if you have any questions about the program. The estimated time investment is 6-8 hours.
