Wanted: students and teachers for student-follows-teacher project

As a student, would you like to experience teaching up close and give constructive feedback to teachers? Or, as a teacher, are you curious about the real experience of students in your classes and open to reflection? Then join the second edition of the 'Student-follows-teacher' project of the Radboud Teaching and Learning Centre and the Radboud Honours Academy!

The 'Student-follows-teacher' project gives students a glimpse behind the scenes of teaching. Students gain experience with coaching and giving feedback and they learn to discuss this with teachers. For teachers, it is very useful to include the student perspective in the development and implementation of their teaching.

For students

This project offers you the unique opportunity to get an insight into the teaching profession and actively participate in teaching development. You will be paired with a teacher from another faculty, and follow them during block 3 (27 January – 4 April 2025). You will participate in at least three contact moments, during which you will discuss the preparation and implementation of lectures, attend working groups, or provide feedback on teaching methods or testing. What exactly you will observe also depends on the teacher's question. In addition to valuable coaching and self-reflection experience, you will work on a final product that you will present on 16 June 2025.

Are you an enthusiastic student and want to join?

Nice! Then send an e-mail to Esther Fluijt (esther.fluijt [at] ru.nl (esther[dot]fluijt[at]ru[dot]nl)), programme director Radboud Honours Academy, no later than 4th of november 2024, and indicate what you would like to learn from following a teacher. Once you have registered, we will invite you for an interview. Also for questions about the programme, please contact Esther. The project requires a time investment of approximately 15 hours.

Voor docenten

Are you open to valuable input from the student perspective and would you like to do more with self-reflection? In this project, you follow a reflective process in which students observe your teaching and provide feedback. We aim to pair two students per teacher. We start with a Meet&Greet on 3 December 2024 (12:15-13:15). Then there will be three pre- and post-lecture discussions of a lecture in block 3 and conclude with a final meeting on 16 June 2025 (15:00-17:00).

The most important thing is that as a teacher you are open to self-reflection. You may want to look at specific parts of your course (e.g. your own presentation skills or the use of certain examples in your lectures). In addition, you give students an opportunity to experience teaching up close and perhaps even make them enthusiastic about it.

Are you enthusiastic and do you want to participate?

Nice! Then send an e-mail to Lon Kalb (lon.kalb [at] ru.nl (lon[dot]kalb[at]ru[dot]nl)), project manager Radboud Teaching and Learning Center, no later than 4th of november 2024. Also indicate where your observation needs lie. This helps us match you with the right student. You can also contact Lon if you have any questions about the program. The estimated time investment is 6-8 hours.
