Throughout November and December, we invite you to decorate a paper Christmas bauble or a paper Sinterklaas shoe and write your wish for the faculty on the back. The decorated shoes and baubles can then be placed by the fireplace in the entrance lobby of the Erasmus Building. You can add you shoe or bauble until 20 December. Every wish will be reviewed and we hope to make improvements where possible!
What Will Your Winter Wish Be For The Faculty?
The Dutch Sinterklaas has arrived in the Netherlands and December is fast approaching. In the spirit of all the winter activities coming up, we want to know what's on your Winter Wish list for our faculty! This could be anything from more places to sit, more support services, a microwave, a coffee machine, to artwork for the walls—whatever would make the space feel more homely or improve student and/or employee life. Given (or despite) the current political climate surrounding education in the Netherlands, we are committed to focusing on the areas where we can make a positive and meaningful impact!
Why shoes and baubles?
Traditionally Sinterklaas arrives in a designated town in The Netherlands by steamboat every year, on the first Saturday after November 11th. Children leave their shoes out with a wish list and a carrot for Sinterklaas’ horse and in return their shoes are filled with gifts from Sinterklaas. So, we want you to decorate a paper shoe and write your wish for the faculty on it. Place your decorated shoe out in the Erasmus Building Lobby.
Alternatively, decorate a bauble decoration. Baubles are thought to date back to the 1800s, and now are commonly used all over the world to decorate festive trees. There will also be bauble templates for you to decorate in the Erasmus Bulding common room, Write your wish for the faculty on the back and hang your bauble on the Christmas Tree in the Erasmus Building Lobby.
