The difference between educational and general AI is explained by the way it is developed and used. Educational AI is AI specifically developed for education, with both the educational context and learning objectives in mind, to support learning and teaching. General AI systems (bigger language models or image generators) are not developed with educational context in mind.
AI in education
By understanding the difference between educational and general AI, we are able to discern when and how we use AI in education. When AI is developed with and for education it will be able to make a real difference. It expands possibilities, deepens learning and gives teachers more room for that which no technology will ever be able to replace: human connection and professional pedagogical practice.
