During the WiNSt Opening of the Academic Year on 18 September, the 2024 WiNSt Education Award was awarded to Rösner.
Innovative teaching
Rösner gained recognition for his forward-thinking approach in his teaching Solid State Physics. Instead of traditional exams, he uses final projects to engage students more deeply. This approach stimulates critical thinking and allows students to demonstrate their knowledge. His course website, with helpful lecture notes, has been praised by students, who appreciate his enthusiasm and his investment in his courses. "His contributions to JupyterHub and devotion to improving his teaching make him the deserving recipient of this award", the jury says.
Theory of Condensed Matter
Malte Rösner is Assistant Professor in the department of Theory of Condensed Matter (TCM) , the group is part of IMM. The group aims to predict and explain structural and electronic properties of condensed matter, covering dynamical, topological, and (strong) correlation aspects within three main research directions: spintronics, layered materials, and correlated effects. Rösner focuses on the latter with the goal to predict and understand many-body effects in novel two-dimensional materials and layered nanostructures.
