Work in the Huygens Building - adjusted opening hours in January

Due to necessary work, adjusted opening hours will apply to the Huygens Building and the parking garage at the beginning of January 2026.

Parking garage closed from 3 to 11 January 2026

The Huygens car park will be closed from Saterday 3 to Sunday 11 January. During this period, the smoke and heat extraction system will be replaced. The car park's safety facilities will not be available during the work, which means that the car park cannot and may not be used. The car park will be accessible again from Monday 12 January.

Huygens building closed on 5, 6 and 7 January 2026

The Huygens building will be closed on Monday 5, Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 January due to maintenance work on the building's energy supply. During the maintenance work on the energy supply, only limited electricity will be available in the Huygens Building. Basic facilities such as (emergency) lighting, ventilation and extraction will therefore not work or will not work fully because we will be leaving the building in “night mode”. During the closure, staff can work elsewhere on campus or from home.

Exception: study workplaces remain open

Due to the examination period, the study workplaces in the Library of Science will remain open from Monday 5 January. Giga-Bite and Blommers will be closed, but the coffee and snack machines will remain in operation.

From Thursday 8 January, the Huygens Building will be open again, with the exception of the car park.

Emergency power

Emergency power is available (to a limited extent) during the shutdown, but is intended exclusively for essential and necessary equipment such as refrigerators or freezers. The fewer devices connected to the emergency power supply, the more reliably the emergency power will function. Excessive consumption can overload the system, resulting in damage to equipment.

Please note: switching to emergency power always causes a brief power interruption. Some (older) appliances may malfunction as a result. The use of emergency power is at your own risk; C&F will not compensate for damage to equipment.

Precautionary measures

To prevent problems and damage, we ask everyone to take the following precautions:

  • Save all your work in good time and close all programmes and files
  • Switch off computers, monitors, printers and other equipment completely (i.e. do not just put them into sleep mode)
  • Disconnect sensitive devices from the mains
  • Switch off research setups and measuring equipment safely
  • Check that equipment that is really necessary is connected to the emergency power supply
  • Limit the use of emergency power to what is absolutely necessary.

Questions?

Do you have any questions? Please contact your manager or PAM representative. For questions about the work itself, please contact the C&F project manager.
