Jan Groenendijk (26) is currently doing master's research with Susanne Westhoff and Wim Beenakker of High Energy Physics.. During the month of December, he was absent to prepare for the World Cup match a checkers (wk.kndb.nl). As a challenger, he first punished the defending champion Yuriy Anikieiev (41) hard-handedly in the “normal” final game, also scored the necessary win number two in the tiebreak and was thus able to realize his big dream: after two second places and countless successes, finally also world champion.
