Yuliya solves societal issues with AI and machine learning

Yuliya Shapovalova is a researcher and assistant professor in Data Science. In her work, she collaborates with Alliander to detect unusual spikes in the electricity grid data. Machine learning and AI assist in finding solutions for these issues.

"I want to demonstrate that AI and machine learning don't just exist in the digital world; they can have a tangible impact on our society," says Yuliya Shapovalova, researcher in Data Science. In this video, she explains how she uses her algorithms to tackle a wide range of problems, from fundamental research to urgent societal challenges like the energy transition in the Netherlands. She plays a role in the long-term strategic collaboration between Radboud and Alliander.

Additionally, she assists small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region by working with students at the MKB Data Lab to find machine learning solutions for their problems.
