Ethics Committee Social Sciences

The Ethics Committee Social Sciences (ECSS) assesses whether research involving human participants complies with the Ethics Code for Research in the Social and Behavioural Sciences, as well as the corresponding faculty guidelines. Based on this review, the ethics committee provides advice to the dean.

Where to start?

Follow the decision tree to decide whether your research requires ethics assessment by the ECSS and if so, which procedure should be followed: the light-track or the full-track.

Decision tree

The ECSS has developed a decision tree to guide researchers and students in following the correct ethics assessment procedure.

Light-track

The light-track is meant for the ethics assessment of research with a minimal risk, that can take place within set frameworks, without extensive assessment by the ECSS.

Full-track

For research that requires ethics assessment and does not fall under the light track frameworks, the full track procedure needs to be followed.
