NeurotechEU - European University of Brain and Technology
Radboud University collaborates with several other European universities in the European Universities Initiative NeurotechEU. This alliance addresses pressing challenges in neuroscience, combining AI and medicine to tackle neurological disorders. Operating as a virtual platform, NeurotechEU facilitates communication and collaboration, enhancing European education through interdisciplinary research.
NeurotechEU, The European University of Brain and Technology
The economic and health burden of neurological disease is a global public health challenge, and neurological disorders are the leading cause of Disability Adjusted Life Years and the second leading cause of death. Beyond the health domain, there is an increasing need observed for new brain-based technologies in control, computer architecture and microprocessor domains, among others.
NeurotechEU delivers education and training for all segments of society and in all regions of Europe, educating students across all levels (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and lifelong learners) and shaping the next generation of multidisciplinary scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs that will address Europe’s challenges in technology and health.
NeurotechEU, the European University of Brain and Technology, brings together more than 222.000 students, and more than 42.000 personnel.
These universities constitute NeurotechEU
NeurotechEU’s partner universities are:
- Radboud University
- Universidad Miguel Hernández (Spain)
- Karolinska Institutet (Sweden)
- Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (Germany)
- Boğaziçi Üniversitesi (Turkey)
- Universitatea de Medicină și Farmacie din Cluj-Napoca (Romania)
- Université de Lille (France)
- Háskólinn í Reykjavík (Iceland)
- Medizinische Universität Innsbruck (Oostenrijk)
In addition, numerous European research institutes and organisations are involved within NeurotechEU.
Radboud University and NeurotechEU
Radboud University is the coordinating university of NeurotechEU, which entails that we have a NeurotechEU ad interim coordinator, Richard van Wezel, and a management and coordination team that helps with the general management of NeurotechEU.
During phase 2 (2023-2027) NeurotechEU activities are coordinated in 5 work packages (WPs):
- WP 1: Management and coordination: Radboud University is lead
- WP 2: Interdisciplinary knowledge creation: Radboud University is lead
- WP 3: Empowering learners and staff
- WP 4: Common policies and strategy
- WP 5: Impact and dissemination: Radboud University is co-lead
Exchange of education, research and employment
The European Universities Initiative facilitates the exchange of education, research and employment. This means that students can take lessons at all the institutions involved, not constrained by institutional capabilities and borders. They can thus gain international experience and benefit from the specific expertise of the various universities. For scientists, it will lead to the improvement of education they provide and to smoother cooperation in research.
In this way, the initiative trains new researchers and engineers at the highest possible level, with a background and network in several institutes. This improves Europe's position in brain research and engineering, and provides well-educated people to tackle future societal problems.
The European Universities Initiative is a key pillar of the European Education Area and is funded by the Erasmus+ programme. The Erasmus+ programme of Radboud University is closely linked to opportunities within the NeurotechEU alliance.
Mobility
Mobility programmes are a key part of the NeurotechEU alliance, with a wide range of opportunities for students, researchers, lifelong learners, and professionals. These mobility options can be virtual, in-person, or blended.
Information about upcoming mobility programmes is available on the NeurotechEU website and this web page. Most NeurotechEU events are free and open to all Radboud University students and staff. Currently, Radboud University students at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level may apply for a one-time mobility allowance per study phase for selected events. Specific details on eligibility, allowances, and application procedures are provided for each event individually.
Student internships at partner universities

Campus+, Your Gateway to Neurotechnology Education
Campus+ is NeurotechEU’s innovative online platform that brings together nine leading universities in one centralised hub. It offers a wide range of neurotechnology courses and resources designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Through Campus+, you gain access to educational materials, mentorship opportunities, and interactive tools that support students, educators, and researchers alike. Whether you are exploring cutting-edge developments in neuroscience or building interdisciplinary expertise, Campus+ empowers you to learn, connect, and innovate across borders.
Campus+ also provides access to the NEURICOO Partner Portal, a central space for collaboration between universities and industry within NeurotechEU.
- Educators can connect with industry partners to co-create courses or projects, develop challenge-based learning, and expand their professional networks.
- Students benefit from internship opportunities and other collaborations with industry partners, enhancing their academic and professional experience
NeurotechEU Student Society
NeurotechEU’s mission is to build a trans-European network of excellence in brain research and technologies to increase the competitiveness of European education, research, economy and society. As students, we like to facilitate this with our Student Society by exchanging what’s going on all across Europe and help shape the future of education & science.
Student Council
The NeurotechEU Student Council represents the students' interests, ensures equitable opportunities, and facilitates exchanges of knowledge and experiences to enable open discussion and collaboration.
The Student Council represents the interests of approximately 170,000 students of all stages of training. There are three official representatives from each of our nine NeurotechEU Partner Universities. The Student Council runs since autumn 2020 and represents students’ opinions across NeurotechEU work packages (WPs), the Board of Governors (BoG) and the Board of Rectors (BoR).
Synapses
Synapses was launched and is maintained by the NeurotechEU Student Council. Each of the nine NeurotechEU Partner Universities has a regional chapter of the Synapses. As a student at Radboud University, you are a part of Synapses. If you would like to get involved, fill in the sign-up form.
Agenda
Events organised by NeurotechEU are - often free - available for students and/or staff of Radboud University.
