Radboud University & Maastricht University

Radboud University and Maastricht University are to increase cooperation in education and research. Aim of the collaboration: to join forces to maximise the academic and social impact in the South-East region of the Netherlands.

Joint programmes in biotechnology and engineering physics are being developed, (partly) on the campus in Venlo. Both universities already have shared development programmes for healthcare professionals. Furthermore, the universities are also cooperating in the field of academic teacher training.

Impact in the region

Further collaboration will provide additional opportunities for students in the region (education), besides attracting and retaining knowledge through strong joint research ventures (research) and innovative spin-offs (impact). Venlo, with its central location, will form a hub for education, research and impact.

Working on this collaboration

Until 2027, the university administrations will provide an investment budget of 1 million (combined) per year. It may be invested in exploring or stimulating collaboration, e.g. as seed money, or spent on concrete projects.

Annual Plan 2024

Annual Plan 2024

Projects

Education, research, development - we are working on a number of projects.

Lifelong Learning

With an extensive range of postgraduate education, together with the Open University, we increase our impact in the region in developing innovative education for professionals that meets current training needs.

Academic teacher training programme

More first-grade, academically trained teachers in the classroom - that is the aim. One way to achieve this is to train teachers partly in Nijmegen, partly in Maastricht.

Development programmes for healthcare professionals

The Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (UMIO) and Radboud Management Academy are working with the UMCs of Nijmegen and Maastricht to develop healthcare executives.

Master’s programmes in Biotechnology and Applied Physics

Two joint, two-year research master's programmes: one in biotechnology, and one in engineering physics. This is what the science faculties of Radboud University and Maastricht University are working on.

The National Education Lab AI (NOLAI)

At NOLAI, teachers, school leaders, school administrators, teacher trainers, business people and scientists work together to improve primary and secondary (special) education through AI (artificial intelligence).

Heritage

For postgraduate heritage education, there are many opportunities for cooperation between Radboud University, Maastricht University and museums in the region.

Support services

The support services of Radboud University and Maastricht University want to act more jointly, share best practices and make use of each other's expertise and capacity.
