The Department of Notarial Law is concerned with the areas of law that the notary encounters on a daily basis, such as matrimonial property law, inheritance law and real estate law.
Research
At the Centre for Notarial Law (CNR), research is conducted into the foundations, system and development of the areas of law that are part of the field of notarial law and the areas of law that closely correspond to it. Particular attention is subsequently paid to the relationship with general property law.
Education
In addition to conducting research, the Centre for Notarial Law is actively concerned with the provision of academic education, particularly in the Notarial Law programme (Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes). A large number of CNR researchers teach courses that are related to the programme’s key areas. Nijmegen’s notarial study programme is characterised by its broad focus on tax law and its multidisciplinary approach, of which the Estate Planning course is a textbook example. Much like in the research, the emphasis in the Master’s phase is on family property law.
