Human Centered Intelligent Systems

Department

The department Human Centered Intelligent Systems (HuCIS) studies both how to build intelligent systems with the human at the center and how such systems are embedded in society. The research covers the foundations of intelligent behavior in artificial agents such as social and industrial robots and autonomous vehicles, the foundations and applications of probabilistic graphical models and Bayesian networks, and the ethics and philosophy of intelligent technology, with a particular focus on value-driven, responsible AI. Our research expertise covers artificial intelligence, cognitive science, philosophy and ethics, and human factors. It includes embodied cognitive robotics, algorithm design and analysis, approximate Bayesian inference and stochastic computing, clinical decision support, conceptual analysis and value-sensitive design, robotics, simulation studies, user studies and behavioral measurements.
