Contextual Flexibility in Language Processing

We seek to understand how language comprehension and production is affected by internal (e.g., the speaker’s or listener’s memory capacity, attention, emotional state, etc.) and external (e.g., world knowledge, semantic and discourse context etc.) factors.

The research concerns language production, auditory and visual sentence processing, and second language acquisition. The makes use of classical behavioural experiments and is complemented by neuroimaging studies (in particular ERPs). We thus combine insights from cognitive psychology, linguistics, and cognitive neuroscience and educational science.
