Faculty of Theology

Hundred years of exellence
Radboud University is a Catholic university. It is the result of an emancipation process of Roman Catholics in the Netherlands at the beginning of the last century. Katholiek Nederland wanted to promote the emancipation of Roman Catholics, because at the time they were severely underrepresented within, for example, public administration, the legal profession and the medical sector.
The Theological Faculty of Radboud University was founded on 29 June 1923. Initially, the faculty offered only advanced master's and doctoral programmes, mainly for students with a seminary background. In the 1960s, the faculty also started teaching undergraduate students. In 1992, the faculty merged with the University of Theology and Pastoral Studies in Heerlen. Today, Theologians from the Special Faculty work together with Philosophers and Religious Scientists in the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies. Radboud University ranks among the Top-100 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in this field.
