The Technical Support Group (TSG) provides day-to-day lab support (eye tracking, Virtual Reality, EEG, etc.). Develops and manufactures mechanical and electro-mechanical devices, time-accurate interactive products and unique stimuli designs for scientific research and education.
Giving support to research groups at the Faculty of Social Sciences will always be our first priority but products are made not only for researchers of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Radboud University but also for third parties in the field of pedagogical, medical and pharmaceutical research.
The TSG uses modern means of designing and production like CAD/CAM software, CNC milling, CNC turning, 3D printing, and uses programs like Solidworks, 3dsMax and Python.

Expertise
The Technical Support Group (TSG) provides specialised expertise to support research and innovation. Our team assists in designing, developing, and implementing technical solutions, ensuring that researchers have the tools they need to push the boundaries of science.
We offer expertise in the following areas:
The prime focus of electronic engineering is to solve any electronic hardware and software related problem. We give day-to-day lab support but also advice you on using appropriate techniques for research and research equipment. The employees are able to draw upon previous experience of a wide-range of hardware and software development. We have a strong competence in the area of time accurate, interactive products.
Literature studies, product information, product data, production costs, terms of delivery and safety regulations are very important factors during the process and are continually taken into account.
ICT support is limited to computers and peripherals in the lab facilities.
If you got a question about the setup of our lab computer or laptops you can visit our wiki page at tsgdoc.socsci.ru.nl or send an email to tsg [at] socsci.ru.nl (tsg[at]socsci[dot]ru[dot]nl)
The work of the Mechanical Department involves a vast variety of activities. Together with the customer the requirements are made and translated into technical terms that cover a wide range of disciplines such as optics, dynamics, electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics and software for design and manufacturing.
First, a concept of design is established together with the customer.
After that, an initial functional draft is worked out and made sure whether all the requirements are met. If necessary the draft is adjusted. The design and manufacturing of the various parts is done using CAD/CAM software, various machining techniques and 3D printing.
Literature studies, product information, product data, production costs, terms of delivery and safety regulations are very important factors during the process and are continually taken into account.
Workability and prototype testing is a necessary part of the process because in many cases standard solutions to a problem cannot be used.
After finishing a project the appropriate documentation is supplied such as user manuals, service manuals, calibrations sheets etc.
The Mechanical Workshop is certified to give students instructions that do their practical training at the construction department. This is monitored by Kenteq.
While we encourage researchers to learn how to program their experiments themselves, our programmers are ready to help you with any more complex scenarios.
We support Presentation and Psychopy (open-source), as well as provide custom solutions for your specific needs.
Find more information about our programming support on our wiki page tsgdoc.socsci.ru.nl
Our developer(s) help researchers create engaging and effective (serious) games and virtual reality experiences.
We use tools like Blender, Motionbuilder, Photoshop and Unity to craft virtual worlds for your participants to explore.
Wiki
On the TSG Wiki, you will find documentation for the Hardware, Software and Research Equipment used in the lab environments of the research facilities of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
