Department

Innovation & Projects is responsible for the structured renewal of the information landscape at Radboud University. We work on behalf of partners within the university, including faculties, support departments, and the library. Our department consists of three domain teams within Information Management (IM): Education, Research, and Operations. Each team works domain-specifically to improve digital support.

Who are we? 

Information Management (IM) is part of Innovation & Projects and acts as the bridge between the organization and IT. We work closely with stakeholders in education, research, and business operations to ensure digital solutions truly match the reality of staff and students. Our mission: making sure information systems work for people. We do this by listening, analyzing, and developing sustainable, user-oriented solutions.

What do we do? 

We support the university in improving and renewing digital services. We do this by engaging with people who experience bottlenecks or want to innovate. We are often involved in questions such as: 

  • How can we improve processes with digital tools?
  • How can we make information more secure, accessible, or efficient?
  • What systems or tools fit best?
  • How do we ensure new solutions integrate into the bigger picture? 

Our main roles: 

  • Identifying needs
  • Translating needs into advice
  • Connecting stakeholders (IT, privacy, functional management, etc.)
  • Guiding project initiation
  • Ensuring coherence in the IT landscape 

We think from needs, not technology: organize first, then digitalize.

How do we work? 

We work domain-driven. Each information manager focuses on one of the university’s three domains: 

  • Education – e.g., exam processes, timetabling, student support
  • Research – e.g., research data, grants, open science
  • Operations – e.g., HR, finance, facility management 

Per case, we assess the best approach. Sometimes a small adjustment is enough; other times, a full project is needed. In all cases, we ensure structure, alignment, and progress.

  • Faculty staff and education offices
  • Policy advisors and project leads
  • Functional administrators and information specialists
  • IT services, architects, privacy and security officers
