RINA

The Radboud Interdisciplinary Network on the Americas (RINA) is a network of researchers from various faculties of Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. RINA brings together academics who focus on Latin America and the Caribbean to establish an interdisciplinary and transnational dialogue. This dialogue addresses the cultural routes, border zones, and histories that connect parts of these regions to each other and to other parts of the globe. We conduct high-quality research on a broad variety of topics, varying from migration to the changing perceptions of ‘drugs’ and from colonial exchanges of knowledge to decolonial feminisms. Our projects make use of national as well as international funding.

About RINA

Since 2016 the Radboud Interdisciplinary Network on the Americas (RINA) has brought together scholars and researchers who study Latin America and the Caribbean. The main objectives of the network have been to:

  • Create an interdisciplinary platform for researchers from any discipline to engage in dialogue about the regions and the interconnections between them.
  • Foster collaboration between researchers from various disciplines as well as between these researchers and the media, museums, archival institutions, and non-research based institutions, such as high schools.
  • Enhance visibility of research on Latin America and the Caribbean within and beyond academic settings (media, high schools).
  • Stimulate students interested in the Americas to participate in our activities across borders and disciplines.

RINA members offer student courses on the Americas on a Bachelor as well as on a Master level, and are involved in thesis supervision on an undergraduate and graduate level. Courses are taught in the BA programs of Spanish Studies, American Studies, Anthropology and Development Studies, History, and in the MA programs of Literary Studies and American Studies. The courses have a disciplinary or an interdisciplinary character and aim to offer our students a comprehensive insight into current developments in and into the fields of research on Latin America and the Caribbean.
