The Radboud Interdisciplinary Network on the Americas (RINA) is a network of researchers from various faculties of Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. RINA brings together academics who focus on the Americas in order to establish an interdisciplinary and transnational dialogue. This dialogue addresses the cultural routes, border zones and political histories that connect both North and South America and aims at a cross-fertilization of studies on these subcontinents. We conduct high-quality research on a broad variety of topics, varying from migration to literature and from gender to urban development. Our projects make use of national as well as international funding.

In addition to research, we offer student courses on the Americas on a Bachelor level as well as on a Master level, including theses supervision. These courses are taught in the BA programs of Spanish Studies, American Studies and Anthropology and Development Studies, and in the MA programs of Literary Studies and American Studies. The courses have a disciplinary or an interdisciplinary character and aim to offer our students a comprehensive insight into current developments in the fields of research on the Americas.
RINA is also active in organizing various events and invites guest speakers on a regular basis. See our events page for upcoming events and guest speakers.
Goals
- Bring together researchers from the Radboud University who do research on the Americas. Our interdisciplinary platform engages researchers who focus on the Americas, both from a regional and a transnational perspective, on any topic and from any discipline.
- Intensify collaboration between researchers from various disciplines as well as between these researchers and the media, museums, archival institutions and non-research based institutions, such as high schools.
- Enhance visibility of research on the Americas within and beyond academic settings (media, high schools).
- Stimulate students interested in the Americas to participate in our activities across borders and disciplines.
